at the beginning of our r&d journey, in april 2019, we set out to solve 3 key problems the founder, daniel mostyn observed in the pro-haircare market_

​

1) todays professional level artist requires haircare that is fitted to them and their clients needs, not off the rack mass produced products. 

​

2) professional haircare is no longer only sold in pro-salons, it's sold everywhere. from online stores, to mass market beauty stores, to local chemists. in our opinion, if you are a pro-brand that sells in these stores and platforms, you are no longer a pro-brand.

​

3) guests of today require a new & personalised experience they can only get from custom haircare, not from mass produced goo in a bottle. your guests deserve products that have been designed by the artist, that creates the art they wear on their head! 

​

there has to be a smarter way, professional haircare should be as customised for the guest as the beautiful hair artists create for them. 

daniel mostyn alongside a visionary team of thinkers, artists, chemists, creators and risk takers, embarked on a remarkable journey to turn this belief into a tangible reality.

meet daniel mostyn, the founder of the daniel mostyn lab_

​

daniel embarked on his hairdressing journey in 1998 in sydney, australia. two hours into his apprenticeship, daniel knew he had found his life’s calling—a world where his spectrum-based ocd could thrive, where meticulous attention to detail was celebrated, and where every effort yielded results. for him, hairdressing became an endless pursuit of challenge and perfection, an art form where the work is never truly finished.

​

with a deep thirst for knowledge and growth, daniel’s journey took him across the globe to train and work with top mentors in paris, london, los angeles, new york, and hong kong. this was a time for him to deepen his understanding of cutting & form creation from hundreds of approaches, each remarkable in its own way, while also discovering what all artists strive for—an individual approach to form and shape.

daniel’s passion for the industry led him to dive into brand and product development, exploring every aspect from formulation to design and the entire brand user journey, from all perspectives.

​

the true expertise daniel was pursuing lay in mastering what he considers the three sides of the triangle: brand, industry, and consumer. with knowledge across these areas, he gained a deeper insight into how a brand should communicate—with integrity and authenticity.

​

daniel’s diverse expertise made him a trusted consultant for international professional and consumer brands, advising on everything from brand strategy and product development, to art direction and messaging. after seeing firsthand how global brands often prioritised short-term gains over true innovation, and consumer focus over professional focus,  daniel’s drive to create a brand that spoke directly to professionals began.

in 2019, after 20 years of refining his craft through trial and error, daniel recognised the gaps in the professional haircare industry—where innovation was lacking and authenticity had been forgotten. so, he decided to take matters into his own hands.

​

locking himself in "the lab," daniel set out on his most ambitious project yet: creating a brand that would challenge the status quo. a brand built on two decades of hands-on experience and a deep understanding of the professional haircare world. four years later, the result is here—a celebration of daniel’s journey, his dedication to the art of hairdressing, and his unwavering commitment to elevating the industry.

this is more than a brand—it’s the embodiment of daniel’s lifelong pursuit to ask: "how could this be done differently?"
